The Benefits of the Windows Mobile 5 Smart Phone in Todays Business World

Smart Phones have been the constant companion of businesses since their inception and first introduction into the mass market of mobile communications. By combining cellular communications technologies with the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) functions, Smart Phones can accomplish many tasks with one touch that were simply not possible without a fully integrated computer system as little as a decade ago. While a number of mobile phone units on the market today offer a number of features similar to the more traditionally designed Smart Phone, a true Smart Phone will take personal and business-oriented communications a step further.

One of the features that a true Smart Phone offers is the ability to access the Internet. From the phone, users can access and send emails, look up information and relay any necessary information to clients all around the world. Certain personal communication devices such as the Blackberry, are sometimes considered to be Smart Phones, however, the distinction lies in the primary purpose of the units. The primary purpose of a Smart Phone is person-to-person communication and data gathering, such as from the internet, is a secondary function. With units such as the Blackberry, data is the primary function, such as multimedia and entertainment usage. While this difference may be slight, it separates personal entertainment from necessary business functioning, which is an important distinction, as a unit with a data focus, such as a Blackberry, does not typically have as many of the necessary features as are necessary in a business focused unit.

Because Smart Phones are based on PDA devices, they offer a range of business-oriented features such as contact information storage and calendar and scheduling software. For businesses, especially those that involve a great deal of travel, having access to this information on a 24/7 basis may prove to be critically important. In certain units, the Internet can be accessed in more than one way. The first way would be to use the phone itself to access email and other information. The second would be to plug the unit into a traditional computer, such as a laptop and view and receive information that way. This would require that the Smart Phone have a USB port present, which many do. Depending on the phone, there may also be other features such as a GPS navigation system or format variability available, such as Microsoft Office capabilities and PDF file viewing.

While a true Smart Phone is typically used for business purposes, as the definition of a Smart Phone continues to blur into that of an entertainment-use, date-based mobile phone unit, it may soon be possible to view television and movies in real time via the Smart Phone. Entertainment is a big draw for consumers and having such capabilities would increase the number of people who opt for a Smart Phone over a traditional one. Smart Phones have grown in popularity so rapidly that it is possible to begin to predict the demise of the traditional cellular phone, as technologies become more readily available and more cost-effective to offer to consumers; however a true Smart Phone will always have business priorities as the primary focus.
